On November 2, 1920, a white mob massacred Black residents in Ocoee after an African American man attempted to cast his vote[1]. Estimates of the death toll vary, with some placing it as high as 80, while locals later believed it was around 30 or 35[1]. The event was a violent reaction to Black voting rights in the Deep South[1].
