From January 1 to January 7, 1923, a white mob shot, lynched, and killed residents of the Black town of Rosewood, Florida, destroying the entire community[9]. The violence began when a white woman claimed a Black man had assaulted her, leading to days of mob attacks on the Black town[9]. The massacre resulted in the complete destruction of Rosewood, with residents fleeing and the town never being rebuilt[9].
