Last week (late June 2026), the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruled that Maryland State Police Sgt. William Heath is not entitled to qualified immunity in a racial bias lawsuit brought by two Black officers. The complaint alleges Heath sent a racist image depicting George Floyd and created a hostile work environment.
