The Rosewood massacre began on January 1, 1923, when a white mob attacked the predominantly Black town of Rosewood, Florida, killing at least six Black residents and forcing the entire community to flee. The town was completely destroyed and never rebuilt, with all residents displaced permanently. The massacre was driven by racial tensions and false accusations against Black residents[12].
