Rosewood, Florida, FL · On map
In January 1923, a white mob destroyed the predominantly Black town of Rosewood, Florida, killing at least six African Americans and forcing the entire Black population to flee permanently [12]. The massacre began after a white woman accused a Black man of assault, leading to a violent campaign that erased the town from existence [12]. It is considered one of the most complete examples of racial terror erasing a Black community [12].
