In January 1923, a white mob destroyed the predominantly Black town of Rosewood, Florida, killing at least six African Americans and forcing the entire community to flee[11]. The violence was triggered by false accusations against a Black man regarding a white woman[11]. The town was never rebuilt, and survivors were displaced for decades[11].
