From January 1 to January 7, 1923, a white mob shot, lynched, and killed residents of the Black town of Rosewood, Florida, after a white woman accused a Black man of assault. The massacre resulted in the complete destruction of the town, with multiple Black deaths and the forced expulsion of all remaining Black residents. Rosewood was one of the last entirely Black towns in Florida to be violently erased.
