In December 1922, a white mob killed at least eight Black residents in Perry, Florida, following the arrest of a Black man for allegedly killing a white woman. The massacre resulted in the burning of Black homes and businesses, with many Black residents fleeing the town. It exemplified the extrajudicial racial terror that targeted Black communities in the South during the 1920s.
