On November 2, 1920, a white mob massacred Black residents in Ocoee after an African American man attempted to cast his vote in an election. Estimates of the death toll vary from 30 to 80, with many locals believing it was around 30 or 35. The attack destroyed the Black community's homes and businesses to suppress Black voting.
