Colfax Riot (Colfax Massacre)

On April 13, 1873, a white mob attacks and kills at least 60–150 Black Republicans in Colfax, Louisiana, during a disputed county election, making it one of the deadliest single episodes of Reconstruction violence[2]. The massacre effectively ended Black political control in the area and demonstrated the federal government's failure to protect Black citizens.
