In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. and the SCLC organized the Birmingham Campaign, which included mass demonstrations and the Children's Crusade[2][5]. Police Commissioner Eugene 'Bull' Connor used dog chains, fire hoses, and beatings against protesters, including children, while the Ku Klux Klan bombed the A.G. Gaston Motel and 16th Street Baptist Church[5].
