1923 Rosewood Massacre

A white mob destroyed the nearly all-Black town of Rosewood after a false accusation of assault by a white woman. The town was burned to the ground, and at least 6 Black residents were killed, with many more forced to flee. The massacre led to the permanent disappearance of the town and is a case of racial terror used to eliminate Black communities in the South.
