The 1680 Virginia Slave Code expanded restrictions on enslaved people, including prohibitions on movement and assembly[4][13]. This code prevented blacks from congregating in large numbers for funerals or feasts and required written authorization to leave a plantation[8]. It also limited time stays at other plantations to no more than four hours, further restricting enslaved people's mobility and social connections[8].
